Students postpone demonstration giving seven-day ultimatum
A section of agitating students, pressing home their demands for ensuring safe road in the wake of the death of a student in a road crash in the city, today postponed their demonstration giving a seven-day ultimatum.
A 10-member delegation of the students made the announcement after holding a meeting with Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam in the afternoon.
After the meeting, one member of the delegation said they took the decision as the DNCC mayor assured them of fulfilling their demands.
The demands, placed by the students, include inflicting maximum punishment to the arrested driver; withdrawal of all buses having no fitness certificate, and constructing foot over-bridges, underpasses and speed breakers at all vulnerable points.
Students of different colleges and universities took to streets hearing the death news of Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, a student of Bangladesh University of Professional, after a bus of ‘Suprabhat Paribahan’ ran over him in Bashundhara residential area on Tuesday morning.
