President hosts reception on Independence Day
President M Abdul Hamid today hosted a recieption at Bangabhaban marking the country’s 49th Independence and National Day.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the reception on the lawn of the Bangabhaban around 4:40 pm. President’s wife Rashida Khanom was also present.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, former President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mian and deputy leader of the opposition in parliament Begum Raushon Ershad also joined the reception.
Valiant freedom fighters and family members of Birshreshtha gallantry award recipients attended it.
Cabinet members, advisers to the prime minister, ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries, state and deputy ministers, Supreme Court judges, senior lawyers, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, members of parliament, senior political leaders, editors, journalist leaders, high civil and military officials, senior police officials, academics, business leaders, artistes and distinguished citizens also joined the reception.
President Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina cut a cake and released green and red-coloured balloons on the occasion.
They exchanged greetings with the injured freedom fighters and other dignitaries and guests.
The head of the state and the head of the government also inquired about the wellbeing of the injured freedom fighters and assured them of extending all out support for their welfare.
The reception programme was followed by a cultural function where country’s renowned artistes performed patriotic songs.
The invited guests were entertained with snacks at the northern side of the green lawn of the presidential place.
