The cabinet today approved in principle the drafts of two laws including “The Gazipur Development Authority Law, 2019”.
“The law is going to be formulated following the existing Rajshahi Development Authority Act,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told a news briefing after the weekly cabinet meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Like the Rajshahi Development Authority Act, he said, the proposed law has a provision of punishment for violation of the law.
According to the proposed law, Alam said, the violation of restrictions on construction of buildings, digging of water bodies and filling of high and low lands and water bodies will be punishable offences.
Besides, construction of boundary walls illegally and changing category of playgrounds, parks and natural water reservoirs will be considered as punishable offences, he said.
The cabinet also endorsed in principle the draft of “The Habiganj Agriculture University Law, 2019” to establish an agriculture university in Habiganj in Sylhet Division.
The cabinet secretary said the law is going to be framed following other agriculture university acts.
As per the draft law, he said, a new agriculture university will be established in Habiganj district and the President will be its chancellor.
“Like other universities, there will be a vice chancellor, pro-vice chancellors, registrar, treasurer, controller of examinations, syndicates and academic council,” he said.
Alam said Habiganj Agriculture University will primarily have three faculties namely Agriculture Faculty, Fisheries Faculty and Faculty of Livestock Science. “If needed, the number of faculties could be increased,” he added.
