Abrar’s Killer Suprabhat bus owner arrested
Owner of the Suprabhat Paribahan bus, which ran over university student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury killing him, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in a case filed over the incident.
Gopal Chandra Karmakar was arrested on early hours on Thursday (Apr 4) from a flat at capital’s Mugda area, a credible source confirmed media.
On 27th March, Additional commissioner (DB) Md Abdul Baten told the media that, the helper was driving the bus during the road accident that killed the Bangladesh University of Professionals’ student. However, the helper confessed during interrogation that he was driving as per the instructions of the owner Gopal Chandra Karmakar.
Following the incident, Abrar’s father Arif Ahammed Chowdhury filed a case against the driver, his helper and conductor.
The bus’ owner Karmakar, however, was not named in the case.
“Conductor Yasin was driving the bus when the accident took place. He didn’t have any driving license,” he added that day.
On the day of the accident, Sirajul Islam, the driver of the bus operated by Suprabhat Paribahan, set off driving the bus from Sadarghat at around 6:00 am accompanied by his helper Ibrahim and conductor Yasin Arafat, the official said during the press briefing.
Sinthiya Sultana Mukta, a student of Mirpur Ideal Girls Laboratory College, was severely injured at Shahajadpur’s Bashtala when she was hit bt the bus. The passengers of the bus detained driver Sirajul Islam and handed him to police.
“The bus was parked beside the road that time. Yasin called the owner of the bus, worried the agitated mob would torch it. The owner instructed him to move the bus to a safer distance,” said police official Baten.
Conductor Yasin was driving the bus away when it hit Abrar at Basundhara Gate in Nadda and killed him.
