6 raped, sexually harassed in 5 districts Sunday
At least six women were raped or sexually harassed in five districts of the country on Sunday.
A woman was locked up for days and raped in Khagrachhari. Police rescued her from Tinhatati in Manikchari, Sunday.
The rapist, Fulu Mia, and his accomplice, Md Hasan locked up the woman on Friday. She is from Chittagong. Fulu Mia was in a relationship with the woman and promised that he was going to marry her.
He convinced her to come to Khagrachhari to meet his parents. Fulu Mia then locked her up and raped her. The neighbours called the police after they got suspicious.
Manikchari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) said: “The young woman has filed a case against Fulu Mia and his accomplice Md Hasan. The police are looking for them.”
In another incident, a 12-year-old girl was attacked on her way home and raped, in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur.
The family of the girl filed a complaint with the Khasherhat police investigation center on Sunday.
According to the family, the girl went to a neighbour’s house to watch television. She was attacked and raped by Ashradul Howlader, 20, and Imran Howlader, 22.
Hearing the girl’s screams, locals came to help her, and the rapists fled.
Kalkini police station OC, Md Mofazzal Hossain, said: “We are aware of the incident. The family complained at the Khasherhat police investigation centre. If they file a complaint with us, we will be able to investigate the matter.”
A man has been sent to six months jail for sexually harassing a college student in Sirajganj.
He was sentenced on Sunday.
Sirajul, 25, had been harassing the girl on her way to college for some time before the authorities intervened.
UNO Md Arifuzzaman said: “The locals caught him red-handed harassing her. He has been sentenced to six months in jail. ”
Two teachers were sent to jail Sunday for the rape of a fifth-grade student in Gaibandha Sunday.
The arrested are Chandu Mia, 50, and Arefin Sohel, 44.
Gaibandha sadar police station OC, Khan Md Shahriar, said: “Chandu Mia sexually assaulted the student. Arefin was in the same room and did nothing to stop the abuse.”
The father of the student filed a case naming the two, and police were able to detain them both.
The police detained a man after he sexually harassed a fourth-grade student in Kushtia Sunday.
Jahangir Hossain, 39, is an assistant teacher at Malihad Government Primary School.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shariful Islam, Malihad police camp in-charge, confirmed the incident.
A housewife was raped by her brother-in-law in Kushtia.The incident occurred Sunday morning.
The rape survivor filed a complaint with Kushtia model police station the same day, naming Sumon her brother-in-law, as the aggressor.
The Kushtia model police station OC said: “The woman is admitted to hospital. We are searching for Sumon.”
Locals said Sumon is a drug addict and had previously tried to rape the woman. Previously, he was pardoned by family elders when he begged forgiveness.
Rape suspect arrested in Rajbari
In a separate incident in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari, police arrested a man following a complaint that he had raped a fifth-grader.
Shafiqul Islam Bepari, 40, was arrested after the mother of the rape victim filed a complaint with the police on Saturday.
When she arrived to school late on several days, the girl’s teacher asked her why she was recently late every day. The girl said that on her way to school, a man had been raping her, and intimidating her into keeping silent. The school authorities called her family and made them aware of the matter.
Goalanda Ghat police station OC, Md Ejaj Shafi, said: “The girl has been sent to a doctor. We arrested Shafiqul on Saturday. We are in the process of sending him to court.”
Teacher accused of sexually harassing students
A school teacher in Rajbari district has been accused of sexually harassing multiple students.
Some female students of Arkandi High School in Baliakandi upazila dialed 109, the hotline for sexual harassment and child marriage complaints, and reported they were being harassed by Abdul Kader Bhuiyan, an assistant teacher.
Polash Kumar Dey, headmaster of the school, said: “Based on the advice of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md Masum Reza, we are not letting Abdul deliver classes.”
The UNO said they are investigating the matter further.
