Water transport services resume
Inland water vessels have started plying in different routes across the country from this morning three days after Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) suspended the operation due to cyclonic storm Fani.
The inland water transport services resumed at 6am as the weather condition became normal following the cyclonic storm weakened into a low, said BIWTA Public Relations Officer Mobarak Hossain Mazumder.
On Thursday, the BIWTA suspended water transport services on all routes across the country in advent of the very severe cyclonic storm Fani that was causing rough tides on rivers and seas.
Besides, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), in the morning, asked maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to lower all kinds of signals as squally weather is unlikely to persist over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of the country.
Fani, dubbed to the deadliest cyclone in the region in decades, kept the mark of its wrath claiming at least four lives and injured over 63 others on Saturday as it lashed across the country after ravaging the eastern Indian coastlines.
